Aztec Gems: why is the fourth multiplier reel separate?

Author —

Three symbol reels form ordinary combinations in Aztec Gems. There is a separate fourth reel for the multiplier. When you treat both types of reels, it’s easy to make a win that’s off the record.

Three reels for symbols, one for multiplier

Described by official Aztec Gems page the 3 × 3 symbol grid. Matching combinations come from reels 1–3, and wins can include multiple paylines. The fourth reel has multiplier values of 1×, 2×, 3×, 5×, 10× or 15×.

5 × is not a fourth matching gem in a separate window. That’s a modifier to the award. Still need a qualified line win; the multiplier does not make up the missing symbol match.

In the screenshot comparison, record the symbol-grid record and multiplier-window record separately. There is no need to accuse one of changing the other.

Two lines, a clear subtotal

Assume that two line awards have been confirmed: 2 units for line A and 3 for line B, before the applicable 5 × multiplier. These are our own hypothetical inputs, not actual paytables or peso payouts.

Line A and B2 + 3 = 5Pre-multiplier total
Fourth reel5 ×Modifier
Result5 × 5 = 25Gross award units

2 × 5 + 3 × 5 = 25 can also be written when the applicable modifier is the same. That’s the same arithmetic, no reason to add 2 and 3 back to the final 25.

Do not create a “line C” for the multiplier window. If each line record is the final amount, first find out if the modifier is included before multiplying again.

What to look for if the total does not match?

Prioritize payline eligibility: which symbols and actual lines award? Next is the unit and subtotal: is that raw win, stake multiple or final value? Last is the multiplier applicable to both rounds.

If only the multiplier window is saved, there is insufficient information to reconstruct the win. If it’s just a symbol grid, the final modifier may be missing. Record the missing field instead of replacing it with a guess.

25 is not expected return. There is no probability or “luck” on the fourth reel available on the worksheet. This helps to separate the combination from the modifier and avoid duplicate award.
